The China Mining Federation of Nigeria has strongly denied allegations of “Chinese infiltration” in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, calling the claims “completely unfounded” and “false”.
In a statement, the Federation said Chinese mining companies in Nigeria have always complied with the country’s laws and regulations, and have actively cooperated with Nigerian government departments to strengthen mining governance.
According to the press release made available to the media on Tuesday, the allegations, made in a report circulating in some media outlets, claimed that Chinese nationals in Nigeria are engaged in illegal mining activities, seizing critical mineral resources, and fueling terrorist activities.
The Federation emphasized that Chinese mining companies have been victims of terrorist activities, and have supported and cooperated with the Nigerian government in safeguarding national security.
The companies have made significant investments in Nigeria, building local factories, hiring Nigerian workers, and contributing to the country’s economic development.
The Federation urged the media and the public to view Chinese mining companies’ operations in Nigeria in an “objective and fair manner”, and not to spread false information or undermine cooperation between China and Nigeria.
The statement comes amid growing concerns about security and governance in Nigeria’s mining sector.
The Federation’s response highlights the importance of responsible and sustainable mining practices in Nigeria, and the need for accurate information and cooperation to promote economic development and national security.
