Arsenal ready €100m Osimhen bid

Victor Osimhen appears poised to join Arsenal, as indicated by Italian journalist Ciro Venerato’s report that the Premier League giants are preparing a €100 million bid for the Nigerian striker. This bid falls €30 million short of Napoli’s release clause set in his recent contract.

Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has firmly stated they will only consider offers meeting Osimhen’s release clause, which exceeds Arsenal’s current transfer record of £105 million paid for Declan Rice last summer. Despite this, Arsenal aims to negotiate a deal at a more moderate sum around €100 million (£85 million). Venerato noted, “[Arsenal] will attempt to sign the Nigerian [who dreams of the Premier League], but not at the steep price of the release clause, but at a reduced amount. Napoli will need to weigh their options.”

Initially targeting RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who opted to stay another year, Arsenal now explores other options to bolster their firepower and challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title they’ve pursued for over two decades.

Following Sesko’s decision, Arsenal has turned attention to Girona’s Artem Dovbyk, La Liga’s top scorer last season with 24 goals. However, reports from Italy hint at a potentially higher-profile acquisition: Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen, eager for a fresh challenge, has expressed a keen interest in the Premier League. His impressive record includes 26 league goals in the 2022–23 season, propelling Napoli to their first Serie A title since 1990, making him an attractive prospect for Arsenal.

Arsenal faces competition from Chelsea and PSG, particularly with PSG needing to replace Kylian Mbappe, who moved to Real Madrid.

At 25, Osimhen is entering his prime and has demonstrated his ability to lead a team to success. His addition could be the catalyst Arsenal needs to overcome Manchester City and reclaim the Premier League trophy for North London.

However, there are risks: the significant financial investment and the uncertainties of adapting to the Premier League. Arsenal must act swiftly and decisively amidst competition from clubs like Chelsea and PSG.
