President Xi Jinping of China and U.S. President Donald J. Trump held a meeting on October 30, 2025, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
President Xi emphasized that China and the US should be partners and friends, citing history and reality as guiding principles. He acknowledged differences in national conditions and the inevitability of frictions, but stressed the importance of navigating challenges and ensuring steady progress in China-US relations.
“We should stay the right course, navigate through the complex landscape, and ensure the steady sailing forward of the giant ship of China-U.S. relations,” Xi said.
Xi highlighted China’s economic growth, citing a 5.2% increase in the first three quarters of 2025 and a 4% expansion in import and export trade. He expressed confidence in China’s ability to navigate risks and challenges, and outlined plans for deeper reform, expanded opening-up, and higher-quality economic growth.
The two leaders reached consensus on important economic and trade issues, agreeing to finalize follow-up steps and ensure effective implementation. Xi stressed the importance of maintaining communication and cooperation, citing potential areas for collaboration such as combating illegal immigration, telecom fraud, and artificial intelligence.
President Trump praised President Xi as a respected leader and friend, expressing optimism about the US-China relationship. The two presidents agreed to enhance cooperation in economic, trade, energy, and other fields, and to encourage people-to-people exchanges.
The meeting concluded with plans for regular interactions, including President Trump’s upcoming visit to China and President Xi’s invitation to visit the US. It is believed that the meeting will to go a long way in cushioning the tariff war between the two nations.
