The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, has revealed that Chinese companies are in advanced talks with Nigerian authorities to establish Africa’s first local insulin production facility. Speaking at a reception marking China’s 75th National Day anniversary, Ambassador Yu highlighted the project’s potential to end Nigeria’s dependence on imported insulin and transform the nation into a medical biotechnology hub in Africa. This initiative is part of China’s broader commitment to deepening cooperation with Nigeria across various sectors.
The ambassador emphasized the strong bond between Nigeria and China, noting that both nations share the same National Day on October 1. He reiterated China’s commitment to advancing the Global Governance Initiative and pledged stronger collaboration with Nigeria under its framework. The Nigerian government has welcomed China’s investment, recognizing the potential benefits for the country’s healthcare sector.
The proposed insulin production facility is expected to improve access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians and contribute to the country’s economic development. This project aligns with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priorities. With China’s support, Nigeria can potentially become a hub for medical biotechnology in Africa, driving shared prosperity and improving the lives of millions.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the event, His Excellency Joseph Tegbe, the Director General of Nigeria China Strategic Partnership, congratulates the Asian giant on its remarkable achievements. Tegbe, a prominent Nigerian figure, extended warm congratulations to China on its impressive feats over the past 75 years.
Celebrating China’s Achievements Tegbe praised China’s rapid economic growth, technological advancements, and significant contributions to global development. He acknowledged China’s efforts in lifting hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, citing it as a testament to the country’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
He emphasized the importance of Nigeria-China relations, highlighting the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation. He pledged to work towards strengthening ties between the two nations, promising more collaborative efforts in the years to come. In his words “We look forward to exploring new opportunities for cooperation with China, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, agriculture, and healthcare,”. working together, Nigeria and China can unlock new opportunities for growth, development, and shared prosperity.
