China-Nigeria Ties Strengthen: Premier Li Qiang Pledges Deeper Cooperation

China is set to deepen its cooperation with Nigeria in both traditional and emerging sectors, Premier Li Qiang announced during his meeting with Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, in Shanghai on November 4.

Premier Li expressed China’s willingness to work with Nigeria to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, promote the early implementation of zero-tariff measures, and enhance cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, agriculture, mining, infrastructure, and people’s livelihoods.

The Chinese Premier also highlighted China’s readiness to expand cooperation with Nigeria in emerging industries like clean energy, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology. Li emphasized that China and Nigeria are “good brothers and partners” with a deep, long-standing friendship, and their relations have entered a “fast lane” in recent years.

Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with China, emphasizing the country’s adherence to the one-China principle and support for China’s efforts to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting underscores the strong ties between China and Nigeria, with both countries sharing a common mission to build a community with a shared future that promotes mutual respect, justice, and prosperity.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, led a high-level delegation of the House of Representatives to the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) holding in Shanghai  between 5th and 10th, November,2025.

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria had extended an invitation to the Speaker to attend the 8th CIIE. Accepting the invitation, Speaker Abbas expressed his deep gratitude to the Government and people of China for the sustained friendship and strategic partnership that continue to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaker Abbas will also lead the delegation to a series of engagements, including participation at the China–Africa Economic and Cultural Forum, and a meeting with the Governor and Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province in Hangzhou on 6th November, as well as a visit to the corporate headquarters of key Chinese companies. The delegation is expected to depart China for Nigeria on 8th November 2025.
