China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has introduced the country’s new Global Governance Initiative (GGI), calling for stronger multilateralism, sovereign equality, and a more just and inclusive world order.

Speaking at the 23rd Lanting Forum in Beijing, Wang Yi said the GGI represents China’s latest contribution to global public goods and its vision for a “shared future for humanity.”

The GGI rests on five key principles: sovereign equality, rule of law, multilateralism, people-centered development, and real results. The initiative aims to reform and strengthen the international system under the UN Charter and rejects unilateralism and power politics.

Wang Yi stressed that multilateralism is the cornerstone of global stability, warning that “exclusive blocs” and “the law of the jungle” threaten that stability. He urged countries, especially developing nations, to gain a greater voice in international decision-making.

The GGI is part of President Xi Jinping’s vision for global stability, which includes the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. Wang Yi said these frameworks complement each other and encourage nations to work collectively rather than compete destructively.

China has also reaffirmed its commitment to the Paris Agreement, urging developed countries to meet their emission-reduction obligations and support developing nations through finance and technology.

The GGI includes new efforts to strengthen the UN-centered system, establish a China-UN Global South-South Development Facility, and create a global center for sustainable development in Shanghai.

Wang Yi said the next phase of global governance will be the “time to lead” for the Global South, with countries like South Africa, Brazil, and Qatar hosting major upcoming summits. China will support their leadership to make international governance more balanced and representative.

The GGI is expected to promote fairness, openness, and cooperation, and China will use upcoming platforms, including the 2026 APEC presidency, BRICS expansion, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization partnerships, to advance the initiative.

The Global Governance Initiative (GGI) aims to promote stronger multilateralism, sovereign equality, and a more just and inclusive world order. emphasizing cooperation and fairness, the GGI seeks to address global challenges and bring stability to the international community.

The GGI will serve as for  promoting equal participation of all countries in global decision-making,  strengthening international cooperation and institutions. This will lead to prioritizing human well-being and development and focusing on practical outcomes and effective implementation.

The GGI is part of China’s broader vision for global governance, which includes initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. promoting cooperation and mutual respect, the GGI has the potential to contribute to a more harmonious and prosperous global community.
