China’s Leadership in Collective Achievements: A Vision for a Shared Future

As we begin to count down to the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) the biggest diplomatic event of the year, bringing together African heads of state and representatives from regional and international African organizations. This Summit aims to enhance China-Africa cooperation by fostering deeper ties and collaboration across various sectors. The 2024 FOCAC Summit is expected to usher in new hope for China and Africa, building on the progress made in their partnership over the last 24 years.


Various schools of thought believes that the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing from September 4 to 6 is marking a significant milestone in China-Africa relations, considering the position that China has always maintained on international forum.


Chen Xiaodong, the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister briefed Chinese and foreign media recently that the summit will focus on “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.” Leaders from China and Africa will gather to celebrate friendship and chart the way forward for cooperation.


The Vice Minister said, “This summit will pool extensive consensus for the two sides to meet challenges and build a broad platform for sharing development opportunities,” He said, President Xi Jinping will deliver a keynote speech, announcing new actions and measures for practical cooperation with Africa. The summit will also adopt two outcome documents, the Declaration and the Action Plan, to build major consensus between the two sides.


The FOCAC has made remarkable progress over the past 24 years, becoming a “golden brand” of China-Africa cooperation. China and Africa have focused on friendly cooperation, steadily advancing the development of the Forum and the implementation of its outcomes.
Furthermore Chen Xiaodong said, “China is ready to seize this important opportunity with Africa to embark on a new journey toward modernization together,”

China’s readiness to seize opportunities with Africa to embark on a new journey toward modernization together is expected to yield numerous outcomes for both parties. Some potential outcomes that is worthy of notes includes, Deepened Economic Cooperation,
Technology transfer,Infrastructure development, Capacity building,  Poverty reduction, Environmental cooperation, Cultural exchange, Peace and security, Global governance, South-South cooperation and many more. embarking on this new journey together, China and Africa can achieve mutual benefits, driving modernization and prosperity for both.

In his book, “The Governance of China,” President Xi Jinping emphasizes the importance of collective efforts in achieving common goals. He states, “We must adhere to the principle of multilateralism, promote international cooperation, and work together to address global challenges.” This vision of collective achievement is a hallmark of China’s leadership in global affairs. This will lead to Increased trade, investment, and infrastructure development, driving economic growth and industrialization in Africa. China’s expertise in technology and innovation will be shared with Africa, enhancing its capacity for modernization.

China’s leadership in international cooperation is evident in its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to promote economic growth and development across Asia, Europe, and Africa. Xi Jinping notes, “The BRI is an open and inclusive platform for international cooperation, and we welcome all countries to participate.” In interpreting the above one will then say, Joint projects in transportation, energy, and telecommunications will improve connectivity and facilitate economic integration. Training and education programs will enhance Africa’s human capital, enabling it to drive its own modernization. Joint efforts will focus on reducing poverty and improving living standards in Africa.

China’s commitment to collective achievements is also reflected in its role in global governance. According to the Chinese leader, “We must reform and improve the global governance system, and make it more just and equitable.” This will give room to Collaboration on sustainable development, climate change, and conservation will ensure a greener future.People-to-people exchanges will foster mutual understanding and cooperation. Enhanced cooperation on peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and maritime security will promote stability. China and Africa will work together to reform global governance, promoting a more just and equitable international order.
China’s leadership in this area is exemplified by its contributions to the United Nations, the G20, and other international organizations.

Furthermore, China’s leadership in addressing global challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and economic inequality, demonstrates its commitment to collective achievements. Xi Jinping emphasizes, “We must work together to build a community of shared future for mankind.” Those are facts that place China in leadership position on the international arena. One fact that we need to emphasise is that China as a leader identified the way, and showing others same way, ensuring the collectively, we all attain the end result of bring smiles to the common man everywhere on the planet.

China’s leadership in collective achievements is guided by a vision of shared prosperity and a commitment to international cooperation. In the words of President  Xi Jinping, “We must work together to build a better future for all.” This partnership will serve as a model for cooperation between developing countries, promoting collective progress.

A recent report launched recently on Chinese investment in Africa, by the China-Africa Business Council (CABC) highlights the significant impact of Chinese investments on Africa’s industrialization. Through market-oriented investments, infrastructure development, and new fields, Chinese enterprises are upgrading Africa’s industrial systems, promoting progress, and enhancing quality.

The report, released ahead of the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, notes that Chinese investments in Africa have become increasingly diversified, expanding into areas like manufacturing, technology, and emerging fields. This diversification has helped Africa achieve economic diversification and improve resilience and competitiveness.

Private enterprises now drive China’s investment in Africa, bringing capital, technical support, and flexible business models. As of 2023, China’s direct investment stock in Africa exceeded $40 billion, making it a major source of foreign investment.

Chinese companies have developed economic and trade cooperation zones, attracting over 1,000 companies, boosting tax revenues, and creating over 1.1 million local jobs. China’s expertise in industrial development can meet Africa’s needs for upgrading and transforming industries.

The report concludes that China-Africa cooperation has a promising future, with opportunities for technological advancement, industrial upgrading, and cultivating independent productive capacities. The CABC encourages more Chinese enterprises to invest in Africa’s infrastructure development and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors
