The Republic of Cyprus has assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, marking a significant milestone in its European journey. With the motto “An Autonomous Union. Open to the World,” Cyprus aims to prioritize continuity, stability, and coordinated progress across the Council’s work.
The Presidency’s program highlights health policy through its social and people-centered dimension, emphasizing quality of life, social cohesion, and access to essential services, including healthcare. This focus is particularly relevant for specialized medical services, such as nuclear medicine, which rely on highly specialized production and research frameworks.
Cyprus also plans to promote strategic autonomy, competitiveness, and the functioning of the Single Market, stressing the need for predictable regulation, innovation support, and stronger internal capacity. These discussions are crucial for radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine services, which require tailored regulatory frameworks.
Research and innovation are key components of the Presidency’s agenda, with a focus on competitiveness and long-term economic resilience. The EANM (European Association of Nuclear Medicine) welcomes this emphasis, as it will facilitate the development and clinical adoption of new diagnostic and therapeutic applications in nuclear medicine.
