The new headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is nearing completion, with the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Her Excellency Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, urging the contractor to expedite works.
The Vice President made the call during a working visit to the site on November 11, 2025, where she was briefed on the project’s progress, expected completion timelines, and challenges requiring urgent attention. The overall physical progress is around 85%, with arrangements in place to complete the remaining 15% urgently.
The project, funded by the People’s Republic of China, has faced delays due to excessive rainfall and site issues, but the contractor has doubled its workforce to ensure timely completion. The Commission has acknowledged Nigeria’s progress in contracting out the construction of the ECOWAS Parliament and Community Court of Justice buildings.
The Vice President has requested the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory to expedite works on district infrastructure and utilities, including access roads, water and sewage systems, and telecommunication and electricity networks.
The new ECOWAS headquarters is expected to house the ECOWAS Commission, Parliament, and Community Court of Justice, promoting operational efficiency, reduced costs, and increased productivity.
