Leaders from the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) will converge in Luanda, Angola on November 24-25, 2025, for the seventh EU-AU summit, aiming to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as peace and security, economic integration, trade, and green development.

The two-day summit, co-chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa, will bring together EU member states and AU countries to chart a bold and ambitious partnership for the future.

“We are committed to a strong, balanced, and forward-looking EU-Africa partnership,” Costa said, emphasizing the EU’s role as a reliable partner for Africa. “Together, we can tackle global challenges and unlock shared opportunities.”

The summit builds on the outcomes of the recent EU-AU Ministerial meeting in Brussels, where ministers reaffirmed their commitment to closer ties guided by shared values, mutual interests, and a joint vision for sustainable growth and stability.

As Europe’s closest neighbor, Africa is a key geopolitical priority for the EU, with the bloc being Africa’s leading partner in energy, peace and security, the green transition, trade and investment, and digital transformation.

The EU is Africa’s top trading partner, accounting for a significant share of the continent’s trade, and African countries constitute the EU’s fourth-largest trading partner.

The summit will also highlight the Global Gateway investment package, with the EU committing at least €150 billion to support Africa’s development, as well as the European Peace Facility, established to help prevent conflict and strengthen international security and stability.

The gathering marks 25 years of EU-AU partnership, with the two organizations celebrating their unique and successful cooperation in developing economic, cultural, and political ties.
