Ghana has officially become a full member of the Partnership for Information and Democracy, a global initiative aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and open governance. President John Dramani Mahama announced this decision at the closing session of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, emphasizing Ghana’s dedication to advancing press freedom and supporting credible, independent journalism.

According to the official Facebook page of President Mahama, this move solidifies Ghana’s position as a leader in media freedom on the African continent, demonstrating its commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting democracy and good governance.

President Mahama also revealed that Ghana will be the first African country to contribute financially to the International Fund for Public Interest Media, recognizing independent journalism and reliable information as “indispensable public goods”.

The President stressed the importance of collective action against misinformation and disinformation, urging international cooperation to protect information integrity and safeguard democracy. “Together, we must win — and we will win — the global war against misinformation and disinformation,” he declared.

This development underscores Ghana’s role as a model nation in promoting democracy, good governance, and media freedom, and its commitment to protecting information as a shared global asset.
