His Excellency Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Honoorable Minister Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commended the Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (IBAN) for choosing a timely and critical theme for its 2025 Annual General Meeting and Conference: “Broadcasting for Information Sovereignty, National Cohesion and Digital Security.”
In a goodwill message delivered by the Kimiebi Ebienfa, The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Minister, emphasized the importance of information sovereignty, national cohesion, and digital security in Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
The message highlighted the crucial role of independent broadcasters in promoting national cohesion, asserting information sovereignty, and ensuring digital security. It urged broadcasters to amplify the threads that bind Nigerians together, promote dialogue and understanding, and secure their platforms against malicious actors.
The Ministry views IBAN’s efforts as essential to nation-building and safeguarding national interests, particularly in the face of misinformation and negative narratives about Nigeria.
The message concluded by calling for a stronger partnership between the government and the broadcasting industry to protect Nigeria’s information ecosystem, promote unity, and project a confident and cohesive nation.
The IBAN 2025 Annual General Meeting and Conference is expected to bring together stakeholders to deliberate on the role of broadcasting in promoting national development and security.
