Japan and Nigeria Strengthen Ties Ahead of TICAD 9

Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, met with H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on August 24, 2024. The meeting aimed to strengthen business and economic relations, enhance partnership, and discuss global challenges.

Kamikawa expressed gratitude for the s dialogues held during her visit to Nigeria in April and emphasized the need for initiatives based on a Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) perspective, particularly for internally displaced women.

On his part His Excellency Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar welcomed the outcomes of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process and expressed gratitude for Japan’s cooperation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, including regional cooperation.

Both ministers confirmed their commitment to deepening Japan-Nigeria relations ahead of TICAD 9 next year. The meeting marks  significant step forward in strengthening ties between Japan and Nigeria, fostering cooperation on global challenges, and promoting economic growth.
