Nigeria and Benin Strengthen Ties through Language Exchange Initiative

In a significant move to enhance trade, development, and bilateral relations, the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has embarked on a mission to bridge the language gap between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. The Director General of NTAC, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, led a delegation to meet with Benin’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Eleonore Yayi Ladekan, in Cotonou.

Key Objectives of the Initiative

Language Learning and Exchange: Deploy English teachers to Benin to facilitate effective English language acquisition and learn French to bridge the linguistic divide.

Economic Growth: Boost trade between the two countries, leading to better economic outcomes for both nations.

Cultural Exchange: Enhance bilateral engagements in trades, services, and cultural exchange.¹

Minister Ladekan expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s unwavering support and highlighted the positive impact of NTAC’s initiatives on capacity development in Benin. She specifically acknowledged the establishment of the Nigerian International School in Cotonou, which has made significant contributions to educational advancement in the country.

The visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to African development and cooperation. Minister Ladekan extended Benin’s gratitude to President Tinubu’s administration for its dedication to the progress of sister African countries.

The NTAC delegation’s visit marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Nigeria and Benin. bridging the language gap, both countries can unlock new opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and mutual benefit.
