Nigeria has officially endorsed China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI), a move that underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening the international system and addressing pressing global challenges.
The GGI, launched on September 1, 2025, in Tianjin, China, is built on five key principles: Sovereign Equality, Rule of Law, Multilateralism, People-Centered Governance, and Results-Oriented Action.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria views the GGI as a valuable platform for advancing shared priorities, including reform of the United Nations, inclusive governance in emerging domains, and promotion of equitable development.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s national development objectives, principle of strategic autonomy, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, officials said.
“Nigeria reaffirms its enduring commitment to a more just, inclusive, and effective international order,” said Kimiebi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The endorsement is seen as a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to foster consensus and contribute to a sustainable and equitable global order.
backing the GGI, Nigeria demonstrates its commitment to multilateralism and its willingness to work with global partners to address common challenges.
The development comes as the international community grapples with complex issues, including climate change, digital inequality, and emerging technologies.
As a key player in African and global affairs, Nigeria’s endorsement of the GGI is expected to have far-reaching implications for global governance and development.
