NIGERIA, NETHERLANDS STRENGTHEN BILATERAL TIES

Nigeria and the Netherlands have strengthened their strategic partnership, with a focus on trade, security, and sustainable development, following high-level talks in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, met with the Netherlands’ Sahel Envoy, Mr. Robert Zimmerman, and his delegation on Tuesday, discussing ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and address shared regional and global challenges.

In a press statement made available to the public by Kimiebi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed key areas of focus included trade and investment, energy transition, agriculture, water management, youth empowerment, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and counter-terrorism.

“The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding Nigeria-Netherlands relationship, dating back to 1960, with both sides emphasizing mutual respect, equality, and shared values,” said Ebienfa. 

“The talks highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy, knowledge exchange, and private-sector collaboration in advancing inclusive growth and regional stability,” Ebienfa added.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to sustained dialogue and expanded cooperation, supporting regional stability, economic diversification, and a rules-based international order.
