The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers (NINs) to 59,786 inmates across correctional centers in Nigeria. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), aims to ensure inclusivity and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to a press statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications Unit at NIMC, the enrollment exercise has reached 74% of the inmate population, with the remaining inmates set to be enrolled in the ongoing exercise.

The NIMC has expressed gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the management and staff of the NCoS for their support in the initiative.

In a related development, NIMC is set to commence ward-level enrollment across the country, a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Commission’s Director-General and CEO, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized that NIMC aims to work with strategic partners to enroll and issue NINs to all Nigerians and legal residents in every ward, ensuring no one is left out.

This move is expected to strengthen the National Identity System and promote inclusivity in the country. With the successful enrollment of inmates, NIMC is taking a significant step towards achieving its goal of universal identity coverage.
