The People’s Republic of China has made tremedous progress

over the past 75 years lifting nearly 100 million people out of poverty and achieving rapid economic development and social stability. This was disclosed by Ambassador Yu Dunhai, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria. He made the declaration at the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja. He said China aim to become a great modern socialist nation by 2049.

In his remarks, Ambassador Yu Dunhai welcomed distinguished guests, including Honorable Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Honorable Ministers, Senators, Governors, and Members of the House of Representatives. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to those supporting China’s modernization and Nigeria-China friendship.

“Over the past 75 years, China has made tremendous progress, lifting nearly 100 million people out of poverty and achieving rapid economic development and social stability,” Ambassador Yu said. “We aim to become a great modern socialist nation by 2049.”

He highlighted China’s contributions to global economic growth, averaging over 30% between 2013 and 2023. President Xi Jinping’s initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, have gained widespread support.

The ambassador also celebrated the successful conclusion of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, elevating China-Africa relations to an All-Weather Community with a Shared Future. President Xi Jinping announced a six-point proposition for China-Africa cooperation.

Regarding Nigeria-China relations, Ambassador Yu noted, “Nigeria remains China’s largest project contracting market, second-largest export market, and third-largest trading partner in Africa. Bilateral trade reached $22.5 billion in 2023.”

He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to China, resulting in an upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over 10 cooperation documents were signed to facilitate synergy between Belt and Road and FOCAC cooperation.

Ambassador Yu emphasized the shared goals of China and Nigeria, citing the Nigerian proverb, “You can go fast if you go alone; you can go far if you go together.” He expressed pride in China’s partnership with Nigeria toward achieving common development and modernization.

As China celebrates its 75th anniversary, Ambassador Yu looks forward to continued cooperation and friendship between China and Nigeria.

“This is a new era in our bilateral relations, and we will work together to build more roads, railways, airports, power grids, and base stations, bringing tangible benefits to both Chinese and Nigerian people,” he concluded.

The reception was attended by prominent Nigerian officials, diplomats, and business leaders, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria-China relations.
