The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory has detained one of its officers following an accidental discharge that resulted in the death of Oyebuchi Anene in Abuja.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh detailed the incident, which occurred on Wednesday around 9:45 PM in the Byazhin area of Abuja.
Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh has ordered an investigation into the incident. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to begin an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Anene’s death.
The Commissioner expressed his profound condolences to the bereaved family and the public, condemning the officer’s unprofessional and disheartening conduct. He assured the family and the public of swift justice.
