The 13th China-Nigeria Culture Fiesta held at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja on Saturday was a resounding success, showcasing the vibrant cultural exchange between China and Nigeria. Students from Chinese Corner Schools across the Federal Capital Territory participated in dance and drawing competitions, celebrating the growing ties between both nations.
Government Secondary School (GSS) Dutse Alhaji won the Nigerian dance category, followed by GSS Gwarinpa and GSS Tudun Wada. In the Chinese dance category, GSS Wuse 3 took top honors, followed by GDSS Dutse and GSS Nyanya. Uko Gabriel Francis of GSS Apo won the grand prize of ₦200,000 in the drawing competition, while Ayis Joseph and Courage George took second place, earning ₦150,000 each.¹
Mr. Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in nurturing creativity and global understanding among young people. The annual fiesta promotes mutual understanding, creativity, and friendship among youth in both countries, strengthening China-Nigeria relations.
Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, announced that 2026 has been designated the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange. He expressed China’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria’s education authorities to further expand cultural exchange programs. Yang encouraged Nigerian students to take advantage of the “Chinese Corner” initiative to broaden their horizons, learn Chinese language and culture, and build careers that contribute to China’s and Nigeria’s shared modernization goals.
Mohammed Sani Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, earlier remarked that the cultural fiesta showcases both nations’ rich cultural heritage, providing a platform for students to exhibit their talent and creativity. He thanked the China Cultural Centre for their continued collaboration and the Chinese Corner Schools for their hard work and dedication.
