Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has distributed over 600 bags of rice to its members as a Christmas welfare gesture, highlighting its dedication to supporting journalists amid economic challenges.

Chairman Comrade Grace Ike emphasized that the initiative, now in its second year, is more than a seasonal charity, but a demonstration of the council’s commitment to journalists who serve as frontline workers in the media industry.

“The gesture reflects our dedication to supporting members who tirelessly uphold the pillars of truth, accountability, and public service in the Federal Capital Territory,” Ike said.

The distribution was preceded by an end-of-year interactive session where Ike briefed attendees on the council’s progress, including the ongoing construction and remodeling of the NUJ Congress Hall. Members of the National Executive Council unanimously reaffirmed their confidence in Ike’s leadership, citing her administration as proactive and performance-driven.

Ike called for sustained cooperation among members to further strengthen the council and consolidate gains, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility, particularly as journalists face professional and personal challenges.

The initiative underscores the NUJ FCT Council’s focus on prioritizing journalists’ welfare and strengthening solidarity within the union during the festive season
