China-Nigeria Cooperation: A Beacon of Hope Amidst Global Trade Turmoil

The recent US tariff war has sparked widespread concern about the future of global trade. However, amidst this uncertainty,  His Excellency Yu Dunhai said, China and Nigeria should work closely together now, strengthening their bilateral ties, leveraging their complementary economies to drive growth and development. This position was put forward whole fielding questions from journalist on Friday in Abuja.

According to His Excellency Yu Dunhai, the Ambassador of China to Nigeria, China-Africa and China-Nigeria relations are built on mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation. African nations are committed to development and revitalization, which requires a free, open multilateral trading system and a stable, predictable global environment.

China and Nigeria are key trade partners, with bilateral trade consistently reaching around $22 billion—among the highest in Africa. Following last year’s agreement on Nigerian peanut exports to China, China remains open to further expanding imports of Nigerian goods, signaling broad prospects for future economic cooperation.

The Ambassador emphasized that China stands ready to work with Nigeria to implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit and deepen mutually beneficial collaboration. Together, they will uphold the multilateral trading system, resist protectionism, and foster an open, inclusive, and fair international environment.

Their shared goal is to advance an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, building a community with a shared future for humanity. The China-Nigeria partnership serves as a model for South-South cooperation, demonstrating the potential for mutually beneficial collaboration between developing countries.

In these uncertain times, the China-Nigeria partnership offers a message of hope for a more stable and predictable global environment. As the world navigates the complexities of global trade, this partnership shines as a beacon of cooperation and mutual benefit.

The Chinese envoy’s statement comes as Nigeria and China continue to deepen bilateral ties under the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership. The partnership aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and security, promoting mutual benefit and development.
