Nigeria Champions Ocean Protection at Global Conference

In a bid to combat the pressing issues of ocean acidification, plastic pollution, and rising temperatures, Nigeria has taken a leading role at a major global conference on ocean protection. The conference brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss innovative solutions and strategies for preserving the world’s oceans.

Leading Nigeria’s high-powered delegation to the conference is a team of esteemed officials from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and its parastatals. They include Mr. Olufemi Oloruntola, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy; Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency; Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA); Mr. Babatunde Bombata, Director of Maritime Safety and Security; and Mr. Wellington Omoragbon, Director of Fisheries.

The Nigerian delegation’s participation in the conference underscores the country’s commitment to protecting its marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable development. With its extensive coastline and rich marine biodiversity, Nigeria recognizes the importance of preserving its ocean resources for future generations.
